not show the green lock despite them having a valid SSL
The reason some sites may not show the green lock despite them having a
valid SSL is due to mixed content. Mixed Content is when you have some
URLs in the sites database which are still set to HTTP rather than
HTTPS. You can type the site name in at whynopadlock.com and it will
compile a list of all URLs which are still being referenced within the
database as HTTP. This list can then be shared with the site developer
and they should be able to correct with a search and replace tool on the
database.
Also,
if these sites are Wordpress, there is a plugin called Better Search
Replace which can be installed and used to update the URLs listed at
whynopadlock.com. Once all URLs are in HTTPs for the site, then you will
see the green lock in the URL bar. Unfortunately an SSL itself does not
do this as it only allows for HTTPS protocol to be used in browser
without receiving a security warning.
